A graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the American Film Institute's screenwriting fellowship program, Kelman worked for ABC and CBS Sports as a production manager for sports ranging from the Hawaiian Pro Surfing Tour, Acapulco Cliff Diving to the Baja 1000 Off Road Race. He also has written for magazines ranging from Los Angeles Magazine , Millimeter and the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly and Inside Kung Fu.
Kelman has written film projects for New World Pictures, Steven Krantz Productions, Cannon Pictures, Full Moon Entertainment. Mortuary Academy for Columbia-Tri-star was made, starring Paul Bartel, Mary Woronov and Christopher Atkins. He has also sold a television film, Mr. Perfect, to Germany's Pro-7 network and has written, Hoteldesaster, a ski/ action movie for RTL also in Germany.
As a producer, Kelman sold projects to Imagine Entertainment and Image Organization. He wrote, directed and produced the comedy film, The Almighty Fred. The film appeared in eleven film festivals and won a Best Comedy Award. The film has been sold to foreign territories around the world.
Bill Kelman's first commercial was a spec spot that he directed for Ducati Motorcycles that Ducati N.A. bought from him to air on Speedvision. Since then he has directed a Pepsi, Miller Beer and Trojan Magnum Condom spots for his reel. He has also recently formed a partnership with Interactive Film Sales Int'l, Inc. to acquire video game properties and develop them into feature films.
Kelman is a member of the Writer's Guild of America and is a judge for the Nichol Fellowship screenwriting contest sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He advises new filmmakers on low budget filmmaking.
